McAfee gears up for mobile security
Monday, November 22, 2010

For McAfee, the acquisition of WaveSecure could not have come at a better time than now, as the telecom majors in India are all set to launch 3G by the year end, which is likely to result into heavy demands of smartphones and mobile devices. The company acquired privately owned tenCube, the provider of WaveSecure, a couple of months back. With this acquisition of a mobile security company, McAfee has added a key element of mobile security to its existing range of security product portfolio – both consumer and enterprise products and solutions. According to Venkat Krishnapur, Senior Director-Engineering, McAfee India, the company is in the process of replicating its security technology for smartphones and mobile devices.
“At present, mobile security is available for iPhones; however, as part of the roadmap we are replicating mobile security for smartphones, tablets and other smart devices,” Krishnapur told CyberMedia News on sidelines of a press conference held in Mumbai recently. “WaveSecure's acquisition will help us to tap the potential of mobile security market in India. With 3G coming here, there will be an explosion of smartphones and devices and will throw a huge opportunity for security technology for smart devices,” he said. According to Krishnapur, the WaveSecure mobile security is extremely powerful, as it safeguards against mobile thefts, alerts the user in case of SIM card removal, data transfer such as contacts and phone book and also can track the location, if the mobile is lost. “Indian users can download the WaveSecure mobile security for mobile devices from McAfee's website by paying around US 10 dollars fee,” Krishnapur concluded.
