Caltron goes aggressive with Acer
Monday, November 15, 2010

Aggressively expanding its distribution circle in the east, the emerging powerhouse Caltron has decided to take its Acer business to new heights, planning to achieve over 200 percent consolidated growth in the business. In this attempt, Caltron and Acer jointly organized two dealer meets at Berhampore and Siliguri in late-October.
The whole purpose of the meets was to let the channel community know that we are assertively pushing our Acer business and we are here to stay over this,” said PL Suhasaria, Director, Caltron. The dealer meets were attended by approximately 120 channel partners across the two upcountry markets. With major vendors opting to go for the exclusive regional distribution model following the trend set by one of the pioneers in the notebook industry, Acer has also adopted to mould itself into the cast. Caltron picked up the deal with Acer in June this year signing up as its master reseller (regional distributor) for West Bengal.
The performance of Acer in the east has not been upto the mark compared to other brands. Despite its reputation as one of the global majors in PC, Acer has significantly lost its momentum primarily on account of warranty policy and the exclusive retail concept,” Suhasaria said. “So long, Acer lacked the much needed channel confidence which accounted for its de-growth in the east. We are trying to fix up this issue with the channels and establish Acer not only as a best-selling brand but take it further across the channels,” he added.
Presently, Caltron is billing to about 35 channel partners for the Acer brand in Bengal and the company is keen to take it to 235 by FY10-11. Besides, Caltron is also confident about its venture with Acer, tenaciously setting a target of Rs 200 crore to be added to its segmented revenue by March, 2011. “I know that the targets are too high, but I like to take this challenge. The product is good, it's a reputed brand in India as well and with a good marketing and channel strategy. I am certain that Acer will emerge as one of the market leaders in the east,” he added.
