The Nilgiris IT Association (NITA) along with Confed-ITA organized a relief
camp in Ketti, Nilgiris for people affected in the recent floods. The hill
station of Nilgiris was badly affected by landslides and floods in recent times.
To aid the victims of the natural calamities, Confed-ITA with NITA, organized a
relief camp. Balakrishnan, VP, Confed-ITA presided over the function and
distributed relief material like blankets, clothes and food worth Rs 75,000 were
distributed to 50 families.
The event was covered in all regional TV channels and newspapers. Members of
Erode IT Dealer's Association (EDITA) and Tirupur IT Association (TITA) also
participated in the event.
The hill station of Nilgiris comprises 30 dealers and churns around Rs 3
crore to Rs 5 crore of business annually. Talking about the issues that the
region faces, S Rajesh, President, NITA said, "There are no service centers
here, not even outsourced ones. One has to drive down to Coimbatore even to
service a pendrive."
Although the resellers here deal with brands like Samsung, Kingston and
Intel, they have to source the stock from Coimbatore. Rajesh is hopeful that in
the coming months this scenario might change and a distributor shall set-up
business in Ooty to cater to their needs.
